Blowing your own trumpet

I know the graphic alongside no way is applicable to the idiom Blowing one's own trumpet. The meaning of the idiom is to brag or to act in a self-promoting or boastful manner. No I am not talking about any single person but am talking of the Indian Media. While I do appreciate the exposes, the scams unearthed, the investigative journalism, yada yada that these guys carry out but what irks me is the blatant usage of "first reported" or "first exposed". Gimme a break. Every possible news channel / news paper seems to be claiming credit for FIRST exposing the Adarsh Housing Society scam. At home I read Times of India & Economic Times and on TV watch CNN IBN and CNBC TV18. Now in print, when I read, it is TOI that claims responsibility for reporting this first. On TV, it is CNN IBN and Times Now both. Is it some kind of a race? Jeez.... And the worst thing about Times Now is their statement day in and out "Your Channel did ....." Why my channel? I don't own it and just by saying Your channel will not make me stick on to XYZ channel. Grow up media. We are not a bunch of dimwits. Stop blowing your own trumpet like you have been doing it. Someday you will be relegated to the dumps thanks to your own trumpet.
